Instrumental Music Program

Elementary Instrumental Music

Elementary instrumental music (EIM) is offered to fourth and fifth grade students on Fridays at Stevens Elementary.  Classes are made-up of small groups of students based on skill-level and instrument type.  The basic instruments taught are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, and cello. This program gives students the opportunity to start learning an instrument for a head-start leading into middle school band and orchestra.  We spend the year working out of a method book with other simple pieces interspersed.  We end the year with a concert – a chance for students to show friends and family what they learned over the year.

Teacher:

Meghan Schuster started playing the clarinet when she was 10 years old and absolutely fell in love with music. She later studied Music Education at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, continuing her studies on the clarinet as well as tenor saxophone in jazz band and picking up other instruments along the way. Meghan moved to the Seattle area after graduating. This is her third year teaching in WA. You can hear Meghan play the clarinet with the Highline Symphonic Band and sometimes practicing in the Stevens Music Room!
