Global Reading Challenge (GRC)

Global Reading Challenge (GRC)

The GRC is a city-wide opt-in program, a collaborative effort of the Seattle Public Library and Seattle Public Schools to promote diverse literature and reading enthusiasm! Between November 1st and February 14th, participants work individually, with buddies and in teams to read and discuss as many of the eight GRC selections as desired. While the competition is open to 4th and 5th grade only, the CHALLENGE (to read excellent literature!) is open to all intermediate students, grades 3-5.

Mixed grade (4/5) teams are formed in early January based on (optional) student interest surveys completed during library class. Teams have the option to meet in the library each Thursday during lunch as well as scheduled Tuesday & Thursday mornings (as cooridnated with their teacher). Stevens will hold our in-school GRC competition the week of February 14th. The winning team will complete virtually in a city semifinal at the end of February or beginning of March.
