In time for gift-giving season, we announce our first virtual book fair with local gem, Third Place Books.  Starting November 7th @ 7am families can shop for a variety of books including special program and award nominee books highlighted at school (i.e. the Sasquatch Award, the Otter Award, the Washington Children’s Choice Picture Book Awards, the Global Reading Challenge, Tae Keller books – see below) as well as a vast selection of nonfiction, transitional readers and favorite authors and series.  Our virtual fair only runs thru midnight Friday November 11th so don’t wait too long!   (**eager shoppers: this link will activate at 7:00am November 7th😊!)

Don’t forget to enter the Stevens code BFSE22 to ensure that 20% of all pretax sales comes back to the Stevens Library.  Those funds will be used to continue updating our nonfiction section and increasing the diversity of our entire collection.  Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to ensure our library reflects the interests & stories of all who visit.

November 10th:  Book-it is BACK!

We are so, so, so excited to bring back a looooong Stevens tradition:  Book-it Theatre!  On November 10th @ 1:15pm, Book-it will be here to perform Kobi Yamada’s beautiful book, Trying.  Feel free to join us!  Founded thirty years ago here by theater artists who love to read, Book-it is live touring theater often performed with EVERY word of a given short story. Their mission: to bring literature to life and promote a love of reading. Learn more about Book-it.

FYI:  Book-it will return May 18th to perform Strange Birds: A Field Guide to Ruffling Feathers by Celia C. Perez.  Thank you to the Stevens PTA for funding these assemblies and to Book-it for helping us negotiate a price to enable us to see both shows!

November 14th:  Our first in-person AUTHOR VISIT in years!

We are proud to announce our November 14th author visit with Tae Keller, author of When You Trap a Tiger, the 2021 Newberry Award winner for most distinguished children’s book.  Grades 3-5 will enjoy a cozy visit in the library with Ms. Keller as she shares a little of her life, her inspirations and personal writing process. She will also be sharing excerpts from her brand-new middle reader, Mihi Ever After. A big thank you again to Third Place Books for arranging this visit.  We are so excited (especially the teacher-librarian)!  Learn more about Tae Keller.

For those interested, you can preorder copies of Mihi Ever After which Ms. Keller will sign during her visit.  Please see the attached flyer for more info. Order forms will be available during library time next week, but feel free to print your own copy if that works for you.  Forms are due in the library by 8:00 am November 14th.  All orders will be processed by Third Place Books which is only accepting checks or cash for this particular order.  To purchase other (highly recommended) books by Ms. Keller, please do so thru our Stevens Online Book Fair.  Please contact me with any questions you may have.

While this visit is not targeted for Kindergarden-second grade audiences, know that we are waiting to hear back about additional author visits through Third Place Books (I am hoping for up to three more, but I don’t want to be too greedy . . . ).
